Directors of The Box Is Gone, Alex Vald and Gurvinder Daheley, first collaborated over 10 years ago on Getty Image’s industry-leading cataloguing systems and web feeds. They have since worked on diverse projects for a wide range of clients including The British Red Cross, The Wellcome Trust, London Transport, The Roundhouse, The BFI and The Royal Academy.

We create websites and systems for the way that you work, that will help you run your business more efficiently. We take pride in good design and functionality that will streamline your workflow. We are interested in how your business works, whatever it may be, and the needs of your customers, clients or audience.

The majority of our projects are custom designs built on the WordPress CMS to allow you to easily update all your content. We are also experienced in converting existing sites to WordPress, preserving their original design.

Whether you require a booking system, admin to help you run your business, e-commerce, or a site for your art or music, we can provide advice and practical support.

Please drop us an email to see how we can help you.

Gurvinder is a web developer with extensive expertise from requirements analysis, architecture design and implementation, through to maintenance, documentation and training.

He started his career at System Simulation, building database driven websites for clients that included the Royal Academy, BFI, V&A and Getty Images.

He claims to enjoy all different flavours of Unix, XHTML, HTML, DHTML, Javascript, Ajax, CSS, MySqL and PHP.

Other area of knowledge and experience include XML, XSLT, ASP, SQLServer, Oracle, C++, Java, Visual Basic... (you’ve probably fallen asleep now).

When not immersed in any of the above, Gurvinder can often be found running after, and sometimes even catching, the odd football.
Alex manages web projects and consults on cataloguing, social media, business workflow and online retail.

He worked at Getty Images for many years, overseeing taxonomony, managing keywording systems and strategy and integrating data from dozens of libraries including National Geographic, Bridgeman Art Library and Time Life.

At System Simulation, he ran arts & heritage, charity and commercial web projects for clients  including the British Red Cross and the Geffrey Museum, as well as consulting on digital asset management.

Over the years, he has engaged in a variety of activities, including independent music promotions, the supervision of animatronic dinosaurs at London Zoo and making all sorts of musical noises from guitar to music beans.

Using her old Flash site as a guide, we completely rebuilt Elizabeth's website on WordPress with the benefit of being to easily incorporate full blogging functionality.

One of the main benefits of this new site is that it displays across all platforms including iPhones and iPads

The site features multiple image slideshows and galleries - for the homepage, collections, press clippings and journal - all of which can be easily managed from within the admin.

There is also a dedicated video page, videos can be included on the slideshows and the site features social media connectivity.

"The Box Is Gone did a fab job converting and updating our Flash website into a WordPress one. They were professional, helpful and patient (I am most probably the most fussy client), and I would not hesitate to recommend their services."

Bugbear Bookings are an independent music promotions company who put on shows at iconic venues in London. We looked carefully at how they worked and provided them with an integrated package that includes a brand new website, band database, online booking system and reporting. All parts of the new system communicate with each other to create a streamlined workflow. Demo submissions feed directly into their database and booking and email confirmation takes place with a simple couple of clicks. The entire project was built on WordPress with customised plugins.

We directed one of our favourite illustrators, Zora Mae, to create some great images to give the project a unique feel.

Our work with Bugbear also included assistance with their mailing list, social media strategy, data migration from their legacy database, hands-on training for their new tools and a project plan for the launch of their new site.

"We are delighted with our new site.  It has massively reduced the time we spend on admin so that we can get on with the job of promoting new music.  We were very impressed with the enthusiasm with which The Box Is Gone tackled our project. Where we previously had various spreadsheets, databases and pieces of paper we now have a very efficient online system."

Tony Gleed, Director, Bugbear Bookings.

We took the designs of Helen's previous site and built them on WordPress to enable her to take complete control of  her portfolio of products.  She also required an online shop which we added to the new system.

The new site allows her access to easily update everything herself and incorporates her blog which was previously hosted elsewhere.

"I am delighted with my new website. It is so much easier to use and will allow me much more freedom in the future. Thanks again for all your help, advice and problem solving – I am really happy with the end result."

A&J required a simple, elegant web presence that didn't require huge amounts of content and that they could update easily as required.

They were unsure about many of their other requirements, so we spent time consulting with them so that we could design something suitable.

The site is built on the WordPress CMS for ease of use.

Alexandra specialises in portraits of British farm animals capturing the essence of their spirit.

Working mostly in oils, Alexandra creates bold contemporary original pieces for exhibitions, galleries and commissions.

We rebuilt her site on WordPress to enable her to be able to easily update all its aspects including fine art and illustration galleries and incorporated a blog for news.

We also added a complete shop to allow her to sell a range of products.

"I was very pleased with the way The Box Is Gone worked with me and would certainly recommend their services."

Idris Bach is a holiday cottage in Snowdonia, North Wales. The owners required a simple, elegant, easy-to-use site to promote their property.

We suggested individual slideshow galleries for each page, to best display the unique features of the cottage and its lovely views.

As part of the project, we also gave advice on social media strategy.

I had a basic idea of what I wanted, but The Box Is Gone came up with great suggestions to improve it, like rotating the images on each page to make sure visitors see them all. They provided the site for me to add my own content to, which means I have complete control and can change it whenever I want.  Their social media ideas were brilliant and have already had a measurable impact on our bookings."

Amy Cufflin, Owner, Idris Bach Cottage.
