We are The Box Is Gone and we do:

  • Create websites for the way that you work, that will help you run your business more efficiently.
  • Take pride in good design and functionality that will streamline your workflow.
  • Offer good advice and provide excellent service with great communication, delivering projects as agreed and to schedule.
  • Provide good value and only have happy clients.
  • Know WordPress inside out and can build or rebuild pretty much anything on that platform.

But we don’t:

  • Pretend to be a big agency who are experts on absolutely everything under sun.
  • Sell a commodity. We need details of what you require, to provide an honest and accurate quote.
  • Know the current location of the box.

Please do get in touch.

Gurvinder is a web developer with extensive expertise from requirements analysis, architecture design and implementation, through to maintenance, documentation and training.

He started his career at System Simulation, building database driven websites for clients that included the Royal Academy, BFI, V&A and Getty Images.

Other area of knowledge and experience include XML, XSLT, ASP, SQLServer, Oracle, C++, Java, Visual Basic... (you’ve probably fallen asleep now).

When not immersed in any of the above, Gurvinder can often be found running after, and sometimes even catching, the odd football.
Alex manages web projects and consults on cataloguing, social media, business workflow and online retail.

He worked at Getty Images for many years, overseeing taxonomony, managing keywording systems and strategy and integrating data from dozens of libraries including National Geographic, Bridgeman Art Library and Time Life.

Over the years, he has engaged in a variety of activities, including independent music promotions, the supervision of animatronic dinosaurs at London Zoo and making all sorts of musical noises from guitar to music beans.

Recent Projects

Carl's site features multiple galleries to showcase his amazing photography.

Extensive text sections including blog and "Making Of".

Custom design and build on WordPress CMS.

Lightbox functionality with pdf download.

"Alex at The Box is Gone was a dream to work with on this project, he understood what I wanted to achieve, and delivered it with great empathy, professionalism and good humour." Carl Warner
Metcalfe Lancaster required a custom build on the WordPress CMS to allow them full control of all their content.

The site has a gallery for each photographer that they represent and they can add and remove photographers and their galleries as required.

Galleries can be reordered from the admin and images can be related so that they are highlighted together in the thumbnail view.

Each photographer has their own biography and journal posts that are controlled by the WordPress blog functionality. There are also articles linked from the homepage slider.

The site was designed to maximise image size.

"We love, love, love our new web-site, couldn't be happier with it and better still we've had some really positive feedback from clients too. It's been a real pleasure working with you ( . . . you have the patience of a saint!)."

Rachel & Julie, Metcalfe Lancaster
We built the original Stamptastic site a couple of years ago and this updated version allows customers to design their own stamps with an easy-to-use interface that also works on mobile.

We created custom plug-ins for WordPress to deal with all the detailed functionality required while still allowing Stamptastic to take advantage of an easy-to-use website that they have full control over.

The site incorporates loads of useful admin functionality and provides features including generating pdf exports of the stamp designs for manufacture and pdfs for the despatch notes and labels.

"We are so please with our new website. The Box Is Gone worked diligently through all the challenges we presented them with, came up with some great design solutions and streamlined our admin to make our business far easier to run."

Emma Alleyne, Stamptastic Ltd
The Learning Box required two separate websites for their different ventures.

We worked with them to create a logo and some branding elements and provided two similarly styled CMS websites.

Both are built on WordPress for ease of use. We also created a flyer design and business cards as part of the project.

"The Box Is Gone offered an excellent website design service. The deadline set was hit and Alex was always available and happy to discuss the project."

Mark McLaughlin, The Learning Box
Bugbear Bookings are an independent music promotions company who put on shows at iconic venues in London. We looked carefully at how they worked and provided them with an integrated package that includes a brand new website, band database, online booking system and reporting. All parts of the new system communicate with each other to create a streamlined workflow. Demo submissions feed directly into their database and booking and email confirmation takes place with a simple couple of clicks. The entire project was built on WordPress with customised plugins.

One of our favourite illustrators, Zora Mae, created some great images to give the project a unique feel.

Our work with Bugbear also included assistance with their mailing list, social media strategy, data migration from their legacy database, hands-on training for their new tools and a project plan for the launch of their new site.

"We are delighted with our new site.  It has massively reduced the time we spend on admin so that we can get on with the job of promoting new music.  We were very impressed with the enthusiasm with which The Box Is Gone tackled our project. Where we previously had various spreadsheets, databases and pieces of paper we now have a very efficient online system."

Tony Gleed, Director, Bugbear Bookings.

We took the designs of Helen's previous site and built them on WordPress to enable her to take complete control of  her portfolio of products.  She also required an online shop which we added to the new system.

The new site allows her access to easily update everything herself and incorporates her blog which was previously hosted elsewhere.

WP e-Commerce.

Payment through Paypal.

Shopping cart.

"I am delighted with my new website. It is so much easier to use and will allow me much more freedom in the future. Thanks again for all your help, advice and problem solving – I am really happy with the end result."

Helen Steel, Helen Steel Design.

Using her old Flash site as a guide, we completely rebuilt Elizabeth's website on WordPress with the benefit of being to easily incorporate full blogging functionality.

One of the main benefits of this new site is that it displays across all platforms including iPhones and iPads

The site features multiple image slideshows and galleries - for the homepage, collections, press clippings and journal - all of which can be easily managed from within the admin.

There is also a dedicated video page, videos can be included on the slideshows and the site features social media connectivity.

"The Box Is Gone did a fab job converting and updating our Flash website into a WordPress one. They were professional, helpful and patient (I am most probably the most fussy client), and I would not hesitate to recommend their services."
